Names and addresses

【Homework】 Work in pairs and answer the qestions
(the textbook on page 9 number 1,3 and 7)

1. How do you choose a child's given name in your family?

When we give name, we have many strong wishes. If we wish that our child grow up big and strong or beautiful, we give “太”or “美” to our child name. For example, 健太(Kenta) or 雅美(Masami). In this way we line up many candidates, and then we run name with family name.

3.Does your given name or your family name mean anything?

My name Akiko. I write Akiko in kanji, Aki is "明", and Ko is "子". The meaning of 明 is cheerful, happy, and 子 is child. My parents give me the name of happy child, and they hoped.

7.How do you know if names are boys' names, girls' names, or both?

In general, When Japanese give name to boy, they often use "ta", "ya" "u" "hiro" last name. In the other hand, we give name to girl, we often use "mi" "ko" "ka" . I think "Tsukasa can use both. Recently, many people gave their children to a rare name, so I sometimes feel that discrimination is very difficult from their name.
